Vermont's
Only Envelope Specialists
Jet
Service Envelope Company was created in 1975 as a subdivision
of the Modern Printing Co. which was founded in 1915 by V. Lafargo,
a publisher of Italian and English language newspapers in Barre.
Garth W. Blow purchased the company in 1945 and expanded the
the business into the leading printing establishment in Barre.
In 1957, the Granite City Press was purchase and consolidated
in the Modern Printing Co., which continued to grow and move
to bigger locations.
In the 60's Modern Printing Co. added offset presses and was
able to better serve the public, by combining offset and letterpress,
a money saving technique that was relativly unheard of at the
time. The next innovation was the addition of an offset two-color
envelope press. This would allow for a much more efficient manner
of printing that would increase the printing production of envelopes
by 25%. This additional production ability would prove to be
a cost-cutting measure that allowed the customer to see a real
savings in cost.
In 1987, it was decided that the envelope printing part of Modern
Printing was out growing the space that it occupied. It was
planned at that point to purchase a 19-acre tract of
land located on the South Barre Access Road and begin construction
of a new plant to custom-fit the envelope company's needs. In
July of 1988, Jet Service Envelope Co. moved into its newly
constructed plant with its then three envelope presses and began
expanding at a comfortable pace. In 1994, a fourth envelope
press was added to allow for increased production. And again
in 1996, with a decision to start a creative split 10-hour day
shift that would allow for an additional increase of 25% more
production. In 2000, a fifth envelope press was added to allow
for increased production. Today Jet Service Envelope offers
4 color process printing with the addition of the 4 color envelope
press, There are only 6 specially designed envelope printing
presses in Vermont and all 6 of them are at our Barre Vermont
location
